Joint SUN/Health Region
Retention and Recruitment Committees
The SUN/Government Partnership Agreement became the first of its kind in Canada when it was announced in February of 2008.
The comprehensive nursing retention and recruitment strategy outlined in the innovative
agreement acknowledged that there is an urgent need to stabilize and rebuild the nursing
workforce in Saskatchewan to ensure the health care system can deliver high quality, timely
and accessible health services.
The agreement set out a framework for SUN and the Ministry to work with health regions,
using dedicated funding to hire 800 registered nurses with annual targets set out for achieving
this goal over the next four years (2012).
It was through this innovative partnership that the Joint SUN/Health Region Retention and Recruitment Committees were implemented. SUN members, along with representatives from their respective health regions and from the Ministry of Health engage in round table discussions seeking out solutions to retaining and recruiting registered nurses to their region.
Such discussions have developed a variety of ideas and initiatives, each unique to their own facilities and regions. To see the progress each region has made, use the links available on the right hand side. |
