SUN's Submission to the Minimum Wage Board

At the end of October, SUN submitted recommendations to the Minimum Wage Board outlining linkages between poverty and health in the province.

Recently, Rosalee Longmoore (SUN President), Amber Alecxe (Research/Policy Analyst) and Kelly Miner, Director of Labour Relations, travelled to Saskatoon to make a presentation to the Board based on our submission.  The presentation provided a unique and critical perspective into the lasting impact of poverty on health and well being, and the implications of the gap between minimum wage and a “living wage”.

Given Saskatchewan’s rising numbers of working poor and alarming child poverty rate, SUN urged the Board to consider increasing minimum wage as a strategy to improve public health.
